Miss Isiuwa Osagie fondly called ”Emmanuella”, an alumnus of the Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies (BISBAS) bagged a first class degree from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, Benson Idahosa University, 2018/2019 Academic Session. Miss Osagie is from Obe Community, in Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State;  The last born girl among two elder brothers, with a mother widowed since 2011, who she said had been her emotional, financial and spiritual backbone through high school till date, together with the assistance from her elder brothers.

Although, she did not forget to add that she is an introvert that is often reserved and a studious bookworm. She spoke of how she initially wanted to read Medicine (first choice) or to read Medical Microbiology (second choice) but she had the issue with inadequacies of her JAMB score which was not enough to get her admitted into the University. Consequently, following a friends suggestion, she reluctantly applied for a National Innovative Diploma in Computer Software Engineering at BISBAS, 2014/2015 Academic Session. Thereafter, she proceeded to pursue a degree in Computer Science via direct entry after duly completing the academic requirements of the National Innovation Diploma School were she obtained an upper credit.

At the degree level, hard work paid off as she excelled amongst her peers; according to her “anything that can be taught, can be learnt”, so she proposed in her heart a sterling-result mindset, coupled with her formative years at BISBAS, she gave herself the push, kept her focus and consistency until she came out with an all ‘A’s result earning her a first class degree, thus making her mother proud. She started working at it at the diploma level, came close with an upper credit, worked at it again at the degree level and got it right this time, with a first class”. In her words, she said “starting from the diploma school steered her to choose her preferred course of study and also served as the platform that prepared and spurred her to do well in computer science at the degree level.

She enjoined prospective diploma candidates never to feel inferior, as it is stepping stone in life that prepares one for greater things, as it makes one proficient in many areas which maybe just God’s way of directing and strengthening for greater things in life. Expressing her gratitude to God, she attributed everything she has achieved to God, who gave her the strength to stay up all those nights burning candles to read, who gave her sound health, who gave her retentive memory and wisdom to understand. In conclusion, she expressed her enthusiasm about life full of great projections for her future, she intends to travel abroad to further her studies in her newly found love, ‘Computer Science’ and programming.
