Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies (BISBAS) last Saturday matriculated students into the National Innovation Diploma awarding institution for the 2018/2019 academic session.
According to the Rector of Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies, Dr. Mark Osama Ighile, matriculation ceremony is an official endorsement and a structured platform for newly admitted candidates into the school to formally become bonafide students.
In his address entitled IT IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE, the Rector started by quoting Ecclesiastics 3; 1 “To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.” He enjoined the matriculating students to create a niche for themselves by making the best use of the facilities in the school at their disposal to blossom. According to him, it is their time to develop a particular skill, under the modular certification programmes; it is their time to distinguish themselves in a particular discipline and become a sought after; it is their time to make technological breakthroughs in research; and it is their time to be the salt, light and voice of their contemporaries.
Furthermore, the Rector made it known that Innovative Enterprise Institutions to which BISBAS belongs and even the Vocational Enterprise Institutions were put in place by the Federal Government to fill a major gap in the education and technology sectors.; Thus, Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies came on board to boost innovation, creativity, hands on application and thereby advance the technological development of our nation.
Congratulating the new students just after performing the rites of statutory entrance into the school, Dr. Ighile noted that Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies is also a highly disciplined institution that is reputed for integrity and soundness of character. It is a faith-based institution that flags the values of academic excellence with godliness and therefore would have zero tolerance for cultism, drug related offences, examination malpractice, and others forms of misconduct.
He appreciated the parents for believing in the institution by sending their wards to the school and assured them that with God on its side the school would surely justify the confidence reposed in it.
Administering the matriculation oath on the students in the presence of the school’s principal officers, directors and heads of departments and units, the Registrar of the Institution, Mr. Enoma Aruevbose advised the students not to go against the letters of the oath as it would attract penalties based on the school’s Student Disciplinary Act.
